California Va’a Solo Clinics
Looking to get a leg up on the competition for the 2018 IVF VA’A World Sprint Championships or simply want to improve or learn Va’a ? Will Reichenstein can help. He’ll be running ongoing Va’a clinics as well as OC1 clinics starting this Fall 2017. Will is a team Primo rider and has partnered with Kai Bartlett for many races. He can help not only with your paddling, but with your training plan. Will will tweak your stroke to squeeze out your full potential as well as provide expert tips to enable you to paddle as effectively as possible.
The clinics and lessons run year round at North Star beach in Newport. Will can also provide private or group lessons that suit your schedule as well as travel to your club location to provide onsite seminars and paddle sessions.
For racers, Will will tweak your stroke to squeeze out maximum power as well as provide expert tips to enable you to paddle at your maximum potential. Will will review the most efficient and economical way to steer the canoe based on the various environmental factors. Will will break down the race from start to finish as well as analyze your technique, and race performance to point out areas that you can immediately improve on as well as what you should specifically focus on over the months leading up to Tahiti. Will will also go over land training that you should be doing.
Paddling seems simple, but in fact there are a lot of variables that one needs to learn besides just training hard every day to become a great paddler. Will tailors his sessions based on participant level and interest ensuring you develop good habits and can accelerate your learning curve. The following are some of the topics that Will will dwell into:
- Reading the water and reacting to various conditions
- Adaptive technique to match various conditions
- Technique and posture – learn to engage large muscle groups
- Balancing your canoe to be comfortable, efficient, and powerful
- Planning your race and course
- Pre-Race strategy and nutrition
- Key muscle groups that need to be developed- dry land training
- Review training goals and provide training plan recommendations
Va’a is becoming very popular and Will has adopted it early on with great interest along with his passion for coaching and teaching. You can register for an upcoming session with no obligation to reserve your spot.

***Important, please ensure you read
We reserve the right to cancel a clinic if we don’t have a minimum of 6 paddlers attending for the 5 day clinic and 4 paddlers for a weekend session. Once we notify you that a clinic is scheduled to go ahead, it is then up to the registered paddlers to confirm attendance by paying for the clinic. In fairness to all the registrants and so that we don’t cancel, please pay as soon as you can. Once we have the minimum paid up, we will send out notification that the clinic is confirmed and that you can go ahead and book your flight and accommodation. If the number of paid participants comes up short then we’ll try to turn it into private lessons. However; in the event we have to cancel, we will refund the cost of the clinic minus the Paypal administration fee which will be around $60usd. If you need to cancel after paying then we will refund the full amount minus the PayPal admin fee up to 2 weeks prior to the scheduled start date of a clinic unless it affects the minimum participation requirement in which case the refund will be 50% minus the PayPal admin fee. If cancelling within two weeks of a clinic start date then the refund will be a 50% minus the PayPal admin fee since most of the fixed costs for the clinic will have been paid for and cannot be reimbursed.
